Delete your account

You can delete your Vagaiyara account and all associated personal data. There are two ways to do it.

Option 1 — From inside the app (fastest)

1. Open the Vagaiyara app and sign in.
2. Go to the Me tab (bottom-right).
3. Scroll to the bottom → tap Delete profile.
4. Type DELETE to confirm.

Your data is removed within 30 days.

Option 2 — By email request

If you no longer have access to the app or your account, send an email to [email protected] from the email address linked to your account (or, if none is linked, from any address — we will verify your identity via your registered mobile number).

Include the following in your email:

• Your Vagaiyara handle (e.g., @yourname) or the mobile number you registered with
• The subject line: Account deletion request
• Confirmation that you want the account and all associated data deleted

We will:

1. Confirm receipt within 2 business days.
2. Verify your identity (typically via an OTP to your registered mobile number).
3. Complete the deletion within 30 days of verification and send you a confirmation email.

What gets deleted

• Your profile (name, handle, photos, personal details).
• Your matrimony profile if you had one (including horoscope, community, occupation and other details).
• Your family-graph relationships involving you.
• Messages you sent (subject to legal retention obligations — see below).
• Event RSVPs, photos you uploaded, and photo tags of you.
• Your notification and reminder preferences.
• Your subscription record (any active subscription is cancelled without further billing; already-paid amounts are non-refundable except where required by law).

What is retained

Some data may be retained for a limited period after deletion where required by law or for a legitimate business purpose:

• Payment records — kept for the period required by the Income Tax Act and GST rules (typically 8 years).
• Basic account audit log (creation, deletion timestamps) — kept for up to 12 months to prevent abuse and reinstate accounts wrongly deleted.
• Anonymised, aggregated usage metrics — retained indefinitely as they cannot be linked back to you.
• Content shared with other users — messages you sent to others may remain visible in their conversation history; individual messages you have posted in group contexts (event pages) may be retained by other participants.
• Legal or safety holds — if there is an active legal proceeding, law enforcement request, or investigation of a Terms of Service violation, we may retain relevant data until that resolves.

What happens to your relationships

When your account is deleted, the family-graph relationships you were part of are marked as endpoint-removed. This preserves the other person's view of who they are related to but no longer discloses your identity or shows your profile. The other endpoint will not be notified individually of your deletion.

Can I come back later?

Once your account is deleted the process is final — the personal data is removed and cannot be restored. If you want to use Vagaiyara again in the future, you will need to sign up as a new user.

If you just want a temporary break, use the Pause profile option in the app — it hides you from search but keeps everything intact.
